Third placegetter writes the report - Taupo November 2025
Brian informs me that the Auckland ‘3rd placegetter writes the report’. This tradition extends to away events so I will summarise it below. What would he have done if a Worser Bay boat had been 3rd?!
Anyhow I was going fast enough to secure 3rd on tie break, so fast that a nice policeman certified my speed performance on the way home!
It was definitely a light regatta, just about their minimum of 3-4kts. I didn’t hike once which is a rarity. The first day had bands of wind coming down the lake, today had an even breeze across the lake so we managed to get the full two lap course in. On the 1st day, to save going into the light bands, the RO either shortened at a mark or sent us on the one lap course. Rod was consistently in the right place and going fast. Bubble is always fairly consistent in that sort of stuff. Gorgeous weather and nice to be in a holiday resort. I started the weekend with a mountain bike ride in the craters and finished it with a paddle down the mighty Waikato. There are some good pictures online on the LTYC FB page.
Pictured above: Rod Dawson, comfortable winner of the regatta. Below: The one and only general recall start, with Ian Watson #103, Mark Orams in #523, Brian Baker #605, Peter Busfield #205 and Greg Wright #190.
